Yesterday and today.  9 Wood Sandpipers at Maurice Hamer park, between the two carparks.  If you're interested in seeing them they are near where the black-winged stilts tend to be.  The stilts are a lot more skittish than the sandpipers.

Apparently these are a rare migrant.  I saw two of these a few months ago in the same area.

They are an uncommon summer migrant in the south west.  Certainly not rare.  One or two are seen every year at Herdsman Lake, but nine is certainly a high count worthy of note.  I have seen nine or more occasionally at Lake McLarty near Pinjarra, but even there 2 or three is the more common number.

Has anyone visited Lake McLarty this summer?  I have had no reports.

Very sad news about the death of Colin Davis due to mesothelioma.  Colin has organised the summer wader counts in the south west, including the special Rottnest weekend.  He also regularly counted Lake McLarty.  He was also very influential in the recent counts of Lake Macleod near Carnarvon.
