Hi Stuart & Birding-Aus's,
There has been some confusion.
The report below was dated 18 December (last Saturday) NOT 8 December and it
was NOT the Birds Australia regular monthly Eastern Treatment Plant (ETP)
Survey. It was a survey now done monthly, usually by me, occasionally by
Andrew Silcocks, for Melbourne Water (MW) at the Boundary Road Wetland which
is on land owned and managed by Melbourne Water and the ETP. It is along
Rossiter Road opposite the T junction with Boundary Road, Melway map 98 B/C
10. MW are reinstating this traditionally excellent ephemeral wetland. The
1992 Spotted Redshank spent much time here. It is an easy site to access and
bird. 90% of it can be viewed from the road with a telescope and if
necessary, you can enter through either of two unlocked gates, one at the T
junction and one at the NE corner opposite the Clay Target shooting range.
(It's interesting to observe how birds on this and another adjacent wetland
are not disturbed by frequent gunfire). If you do go in, make sure all gates
are shut because cattle are present on this grazing lease. And if you are
going, make it soon because I expect it could be dry within two weeks to a
month.
