For a bird to be included in the Atlas it has to have been reported by
an atlasser during the life of the programme and have been accepted as a
bona fide observation. Evidently this didn't happen for the B-b SP.

During the course of the programme many birds were not reported in areas
where they are known to be historically present and could be expected to
be found, but weren't, simply because no-one happened to see them and
officially report them. It doesn't mean they weren't there - just not
reported, therefore they were left out of the Atlas for that area. This
could be seen as a shortcoming in the atlassing methodology, but that's
how it was.

Hi,

Looking at the BARC website, reading case 382, shows that
there has only been 6 BARC accepted sightings of the
BB Sandpiper and two under review. (cases 416 and 435).

Isnt that low enough for it to be considered a very rare
vagrant? I guess BARC isn't as useful a resource as the
only shows 3 confirmed mainland (including Tassie)
sightings of King Penguins. Do kingies show up in the
atlas?

Regards,
Vin.
