G'day,

The latest Bribie Island Holiday Guide, 2005, has just been issued by the
Bribie Island Chamber of Commerce. It is a photograph-rich,
information-packed brochure, and a significant improvement on previous
years' efforts, although the introductory pages would be an excellent
case-study for grade 8 students. However, there is an excellent review of
the birds of Bribie Island (Queensland's Birdwatching Hot-spot), embellished
with several stunning photos, including a laughing Laughing Gull. And look
out for the butterflies hiding amongst the adverts. The author, of course,
wishes to remain anonymous.

To those prominently-featured members of this list who live locally, and
weren't prepared to fork out a mere $4 for the Buckley's Hole booklet to
help support the Bribie Island Environmental Protection Association
(although happy to twitch the visiting Laughing Gull) - it's free!

Colin Reid has forwarded the info that the still undescribed Allpahuayo
gnatcatcher gets 8 points. And that 8 points are also rewarded for a
seemingly new species of Cnemotriccus similar to duidae. 7 points are given
to the newly described Mishana Tyrannulet (2001), Allpahuayo Antbird (2002),
Northern Chestnut-tailed Antbird (2003) and 1 point for the newly described
Ancient Antwren (1998). Hey, I saw all of those last year so I have 38
points - how many do I need for a flight to Peru? Regarding the gnatcatcher,
I understood that there were only 4 known pairs in the forest near Iquitos
and that searches in other white sand forests had failed to produce further
sightings. Is this still the case? Are the authorities still resisting the
urge to collect more of them?

Cheers - Trevor.
