Over the past couple of weeks I have been involved in checking mapping
in a wide area west of Ipswich. This has involved driving many
kilometres on seldom-experienced roads and tracks and having my bins
at the ready. There is quite widespread surface water over most of the
area and consequently many wetland species have been evident, Plumed
Whistling-Duck appear to be in every wet paddock, though usually
common waterfowl such as Australian Shoveller are still absent, and no
Black-necked Stork have been seen so far.
Observations include:
Blue-winged Kookaburra south-west of Harrisville.
Plum-headed Finch (2) near Pine Mountain
Square-tailed Kite near Fernvale
Little Bronze-Cuckoo near Grandchester
Juvenile Spotted Harrier at Tarampa
