I'm 69 and still consider myself to be young !  But you are, I think,
right. Most birders one meets are well into the wrinkler stage. Probably
because they allow themselves more time for such activities than younger
folk who are still in the frantic dash about phase, trying desperately
to prove how important they are ( and staying in front of the tax man).

One thing I do know is there is a dearth of young adults doing it.  I've

only met two birders around my age at Birds W.A. walks, and they came
and 
went rather quickly.

In the U.S. there seems to be many birders around my age.
