Greetings all,
been lurking a long while because - I've done NO birding!! Life with a 2 yo!
A few comments on the paltry indigenous bird pop in West Brunswick recently.
Aside
from pidgeons and various other exotics - rainbow lorrikeets returned to our
apple and
apricot tree this morning. Always a pleasant sight and sound.
In the isolated stands of trees along Moonee Ponds Creek the Willie Wagtails
are in
good form - a pair harrassed me and my labrador the other day. If he is far
ahead of
me I have seen one dive bomb the dog like a magpie with the same crack of
static as
the claws go through his fur!!
I would like to ask a question about behaviour. I have seen Red Wattlebirds
(and
another small honey eater) doing the following about dusk. Fly straight up
above a
perch (tree or powerlines) and then sort of float back down to their perch.
Why is it so?
BTW, off on 11 Nov for 2 weeks - Atherton Tablelands and Daintree - 7 days
Chamber's Wildlife Lodge, 3 days Kingfisher Park and 3 days Redmill House.
Can't
wait!
