Hi Claire and all,

I observed a group of Australian ravens nectar feeding from a Grevillia robusta (Silky oak) at Monash University a couple of years ago.  I observed them for some time and concluded that they were definitely not picking insects out of the flowers, but seemed to be drinking from the flowers themselves.  They didn't remove the flowers though, but remained in the tree, moving from one flower to the next.

Cheers,

Prue

Hi All,

On the subject of ravens, on Monday afternoon I watched a pair and their youngester getting stuck into a bottlebrush shrub. At first I thought they were meerly picking off the flowers, but they would carry the flowers to a perch and holding them in one foot, would probe their bills in the centre of the flowers. I can only assume they were after the nectar? Has anyone else observed nectar feeding in Australian Ravens before?
