I posted about a year ago the thrill of seeing a Buff Banded Rail
working the garden beds outside the Botanical Gardens gate on busy
Macquarie Street, while on a trip to the dentist.
Well, back to the dentist last week again. This time we found two,
not quite on the street, but close by, ferreting around in the garden
beds up behind the Con. What a fantastic bird to see right in the CBD.
A little further out of town, a White-throated Nightjar was picked
up on Parramatta Road, Homebush! The bird was found stunned, at a
factory complex by a Blue Mountains WIRES member where he worked.
He brought the bird up to us for rehab. After a quiet night and an
examination, it got the all clear and was released back in the small
remnant of bush behind the factory.
(One is obviously tempted to call this remnant patch, his "home bush"
but I will refrain from such obvious jokes)
