Hi Y'all
Robert D and I ventured in to the wilds of Sherwood Arboretum today to
see for ourselves the White-winged Trillers reported lately by PW.
Successfully spotted and very nice views too, but no Baillon's or
Bitterns.
On our return homewards we stopped off at, for us, a new birding 'spot'
- Oxley Common, located opp the Rocklea markets.
Long walk out along the riverbank, but the number of trees planted
foretell an interesting future. We reached a marshland area called
Pelican Island and found the remnants of a natural wetlands - one of the
last in Brisbane according to the blurb on the signage. Nice little pond
and marsh surrounds, suggest good crake/rail habitat? We declined to go
further to the 'Secret Forest' due to other commitments, but enough
walking here for at least 2 hours. Anyone visit here regularly?
Best bird - Rufous Songlark on the track just beside the pond itself.
A bit windy today, but definitely worth more attention in the
future.....
