Peter, If Slate-backed Thornbills occur around Alice Springs and also occur as far east as Bowna HSD Cunnamulla Qld, for which some discussion has occurred in the past on Birding-aus, I assume them that they could occur at Tibooburra in NSW That is, providing they were properly identified and the dark iris was clearly noted and the birds were not Inland Thornbills. On immature Inland Thornbills, it is often very hard to see the striations on the breast. If you are satisfied that your observation was correct, then the NSW Records Appraisal Committee would be interested in a submission as the species is not listed for NSW.
