Judith,
           If you mean "screeching" I'd say Barn Owl. We have a resident
barnie who calls (screeches) every night, saw him /her tonight. A pair
raised three chicks in a hollow of an old euc. two years ago, only 100 m
from our home. Do you have access to any audio tapes?
