I missed the Sacred Kingfisher at Banyule Flats when I was there on Sunday -
but then drove to Yellingbo for the monthly BOCA survey on that property and
we had 3 of them there - an obvious pair and a solitary one in another part
of the property.

Sunday morning, 3rd October, at Banyule Flats (Heidelberg)
- My first Sacred Kingfisher this spring, calling from a Red Gum's top
branches on the river bank. As it arrived it scared off the first Dusky
Woodswallow I've seen this year. A Shining Bronze Cuckoo was heard, and
on Saturday a Fantailed Cuckoo was calling by the Plenty River
footbridge. Blackfaced Cuckoo-shrikes are back in good numbers too.
Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets, Redrumped parrots, Eastern
Rosellas all in and out of nest-hollows. Long-billed Corellas about.
Frogmouths nesting. And Red Wattlebirds in enormous numbers as most
conspicuous species - as usual.
