Baer's Pochard. The claim of a Baer's Pochard has not been withdrawn,
Birdline was incorrect to suggest otherwise. Fred Smith is preparing an
article for publication on the bird and we will keep you informed as this
progresses.

20 September
This morning between 8am and 9am at Newport Lakes there was a Golden
Whistler in bush behind marker number and 2 Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo in car
park near information sign. Thanks Colin Clark.
20 September
A Tawny Frogmouth is near Rushall Railway Station Nth Fitzroy. Thanks Philip
Hughes.
19 September
There was an Azure Kingfisher, Olive-backed Oriole, a pair of Gang Gang
Cockatoos and a Little Friarbird at her nest at Lake Benalla. Thanks

19 September
Highlights at Hird's swamp included 100's of Whiskered Terns and
Black-winged Stilts, 4 separate sightings of Baillon's Crakes in 2 hours
birdwatching, Spotted Crakes, Spotless Crake calling, a pair of Brolgas,
Glossy Ibis, Intermediate Egret, and a nesting pair of White-bellied
Sea-Eagles. Thanks Simon Starr.

There were two Orange-bellied Parrots quietly feeding at “The Spit”. Thanks

14 September
There was an Australian Shelduck between Korumburra and Kongwak feeding in
paddocks. Thanks Elaine Campbell.

There was a male Mistletoebird at the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens.

1 Brush Cuckoo heard from riparian habitat within heathy woodland at Bunyip
State Park. Thanks George Appleby.
7 September
Here are some sightings from a visit to the western block of the You Yangs
(Hovell’s Creek): Olive-backed Oriole (at least 2), White-winged Triller
(male & female), Dusky Woodswallow (3), Musk Lorikeet, Fairy Martin (many),
Horsfield’s Bronze-Cuckoo, Yellow-faced Honeyeater. There were also several
Pallid Cuckoo and a Fan-tailed Cuckoo in the fields either side of Toynes Rd
(Toynes Rd is the unsealed continuation of You Yangs Rd across Farrars Rd
leading up to the locked gate into the You Yangs). Thanks Richard Nowotny.
7 September
1 Little and several Long-billed Corellas in the hills near Ruffy
(north-east of Seymour). Thanks George Appleby.

Beside a pine plantation in the Holey Plains State Park area, two Peaceful
Doves. Thanks Duncan Fraser.
6 September
While birding at the Marlo aerodrome, 11 Latham's Snipe were flushed from
the wet margins surrounding the airstrip. Another early season sighting for
this area. Thanks Len Axen.
5 September
The highlights of this months Port Fairy Pelagic include 1 Blue Petrel, 6
Hutton's Shearwaters, 2 Southern and 2 Northern Royal Albatross, 1 juvenile
Grey-headed Albatross and 2 Grey-backed Storm-petrels. Thanks Mike Carter.
5 September
Peter Lansley saw an Osprey at Point Danger, Portland. Ospreys are rare in
Vic. Thanks Mike Carter.
5 September
A Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo was seen calling in West Melton, N/E of the
Bulmans & Minns Road intersection. Thanks Micah Kawalek.
1 September
There was an adult Square-tailed Kite over Chiltern NP, near Cyanide Dam.
Other sightings were 5-6 White-breasted Woodswallows along western shores of
Lake Mokoan, 2 Turquoise Parrots in Chiltern NP, 2 Speckled Warblers at Reef
Hills SP, a Black Kite just south of Wangaratta and 40-50 Fairy Martins at
Euroa Sewage Ponds. Thanks Steve Davidson.
