Hi,
As I probably said before, the only reason I went for the Geko 201 was
that the Etrex only uses 2000 points in the track log. Unless you are
carrying a laptop or ipaq without, you will run out of active track points
in less than a day. On saturday driving from melbourne to killawarra
then chiltern and then back to melbourne, I used about 3500 track points.
The benifit of using active track points vs saved track points is that
the saved ones are trimmed down and dont contain altitude (possibly date)
information. The Geko is only $20 more than the Etrex, but the two
drawbacks are: The 'ON' switch is easy to switch on accidentially and
it uses AAA which dont last as long.
Having the gps in my hand is not an issue as I only take it out when
I need it. I also got the power/serial adaptor, an IPAQ and it works
great. I can see exactly where I am on the moving map. Saved me this
weekend having missed a turn to get to Boweya. Would have taken me a
while to figure where I went wrong.
If anyone intersted in getting a gps, DO NOT get the Geko 101 as you
cannot connect it to a computer or Ipaq. The Etrex is the lower garmin
model to get.
