Hi Steve
I'm afraid none of these species can be found close to Adelaide. You'll
=
have to head up to the Flinders Ranges for a few of these (4-5 hrs =
drive). Rufous Fieldwren can be found without too much trouble, =
particularly at Brachina Gorge. The best areas to look for Short-tailed
=
Grasswren are around Willow Springs (just north of Wilpena Pound, call =
in at the homestead for a map and gps directions), Stokes Hill Lookout =
(adjacent to Willow Springs), and there have also been reports from it =
along the track into the Appealinna ruins. Chirruping (not Chiming) =
wedgebill can be found along the track to (east of) the Wearing Gorge, =
Gammon Ranges.
If you're lucky you could find the Mallee Emu-wren in the southern part
=
of Ngarkat CP (2-3 hrs from Adl), at the southern entrance at the track
=
runs parallel to the main track for a few 100 metres then bears right, =
search the open plains with heath. You'll probably need a 4WD. Rufous =
Fieldwren and Western Whipbird have also been recorded from Ngarkat but
=
the latter rarely. Otherwise for MEW's try the Thomas & Thomas site at =
Hattah (just over the border in Vic) or the track leading into the =
mallee from the back of Pink Lakes (along the Mallee Highway from =
Pinnaroo-Ouyen). Both sites are probably 4-5 hrs drive from Adl.
Best chances for Western Whipbird - Innes NP at the bottom end of
Yorke =
Peninsula (3 hrs drive), and on Kangaroo Island at Cape Gantheaume =
Conservation Park, on the D'Estrees Bay side.
Rock Parrots are regularly seen at Penrice (access only through BirdsSA
=
or if you know someone with a key). I saw one a few months ago at the =
back of Penrice along the public track to the mangroves of Pt Gawler CP
=
(near the Penrice gate on the left).
No recent sightings of SCPs at Gluepot that I'm aware of. Also check
out =
my website (url below)
Cheers
