Hi Tim
The likelihood of the species you mentioned in Gloucester tops:
Rufous scrub bird: good timing, it is the onset of breeding at the
moment, so males (even the ephemeral or non-breeding males which defend
short-term territories); listen along creek lines (supporting water)
with dense understorey, logs, leaf litter in wet sclerophyll/eucalypt
ecotones at higher altitudes e.g. >600m
Sooty Owl: end of breeding season, birds mostly quiet at this time of
year; listen in areas of tall forest, creeklines, lower altitudes,
areas around chichester SF
Noisy Pitta: could be returning to the higher altitudes after
autumn/winter altitudinal migration to lower altitudes; from studies of
rufous scrub birds, usually found in areas of open understorey (prefer
comparitively more open areas within understorey to forage and the site
affords them protection/early detection; subtropical rainforest is
usually a preferred forest type
Marbles Frogmouths: Not likely, southern most record in NSW is in the
Lismore region
hope this helps
Peter

Dear All,
I am looking to make a short weekend trip to the above in the next few
weeks.
I will be looking for rufous Scrubbirds, Sooty Owl, Noisy Pitta and
Marbled Frogmouth in particluar, amongst other things. IS my timing
OK? If so, any tips on specific locations?
Many thanks
Tim.
