Dear All, Many of you will know that six captive-bred Orange-bellied
Parrots were released recently near Point Wilson as part of the Recovery
Program, fitted with radio-transmitters. Several people have seen one or
more of them in the traditional areas nearby. Two of the birds have
disappeared, and several people will be searching for them in the next few
days. If anyone finds Orange-bellied Parrots in new or unexpected places,
could you please let us know quickly so we can check it out with our radio
receivers? My mobile is 0429-855 342. We'll keep in touch with Birds
Australia of course to make sure all observations are recorded. The
transmitters are mounted on the tail and the antennae are visible in
flight. As with any OBP, we'd like to know what the birds are feeding on.
It's also important to minimise disturbance, especially for those in
traditional areas where they may be encountered by many people. Remember
these birds are just learning to cope with wild conditions! Any
