Subject: | South Polar Skua: Seasonal occurrence |

The following is an excerpt from Frank O'Connor's excellent
reporet from the recent pelagic trip ex Perth WA.
"Suggestions were immediately made about South Polar Skua, but as they are extremely
rare in Western Australia and usually only observed in Australia
during northern migration in April, it was thought that this would be
very unlikely."
We observe this species off the coast of NSW as a rarity from
March through to late August as exemplified in the
Wollongong Pelagic Bird List.
