I had the pleasure of being in Townsville for a
few days until yesterday. Yesterday morning I had a quick (unfortunately) visit
to Townsville Common Conservation Park where I saw 53 species in a short
time without much of a look at any of the wetter areas. I am certain that I saw
Black Honeyeaters, albeit females only, on two separate occasions - one
from a distance and the second a group of three from no more than 2 metres
away ( I was in the company of 2 NZ birders at this stage and they were unsure
of their Aust Honeyeaters but tended to agree with my observation after
referencing Pizzey and Knight). By the time I reacted and tried to focus the
digicam - gone. I note they a listed among the rare to occasional visitors to
this neck of the woods and was wondering does anyone have a decent photo of the
female Black Honeyeater that I can compare.
cheers
Peter
