Hi Martin and all,
On the topic of Grey-crowned Babblers l am curious to
know whether a populations still exists at the Woodlands Golf Course, north of
White Street in Mordialloc, c. 40 km south eastern Melbourne. As far as l am
aware a number of individuals still persist at this location but the last
documented record of GcB was in 2002 (Atlas of Victoria Wildlife).

The other day l drove past the golf course and noticed that they have recently
planted a number of trees and shrubs (not too sure if they were site indig.)
along the fairways - Great to see.

Let's hope that this isolated population persists in the future.

Cheers

Importance: High

Jack Krohn inquires about Grey-crowned Babbler records for the isolated
population on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne Victoria.

I've just checked Atlas of Victorian Wildlife records for this part of the
state and the last recorded observations of this threatened species were
from 1999 as follows:

- 'Nepean Hwy 6km south of Mt Martha'
- 'Mt Eliza' and
- 'Devilbend Reservoir Hastings West'

I seem to remember there were records of GcBs on the peninsula in the Bird
Observers Club 'Unusual Sightings Reports' recently but cannot recall which
edition. Would be worth contacting the BOCA headquarters in Nunawading to
find this out.

Let us know how you go Jack, as it is important to keep track of this
declining population which may be down to male-only flocks now (?).

cheers
