In response to Rohan Clarke's request I agree that vittalus is most likely the Antarctic Tern and frontalis is the White-fronted Tern.  I have no supporting evidence for the former but with respect to the latter Leach's 'An Australian Bird Book' 1912 states White-fronted Tern (Southern) S. striata (frontalis).
