Attention sea-bird savants/savantes,
I have now and then seen sighting-reports referring to particular
albatrosses by names (both
common-English and scientific) which I have not been able to track-down
in my reference books.
As most of these sightings appear to have been made in Australian waters
this has been doubly
frustrating.
The latest such source of frustration has come from the latest
contributions to Tom Tarrant's
wonderful web-project: "The Australian Bird Image Database."

Photographer Inger Vandyke has contributed excellent images of:
- Campbell Albatross, Thalassarche impavida
- Gibson's Albatross, Diomedea gibsoni
Hi,
I have the book, ' Field Guide to New Zealand Seabirds' by
Brian Parkingson. It takes that the taxonomy is from the (AFAIK) unaccepted
Albatross Biology and Conservation (Gales, 1998). The book includes the
following as species
of albatross:
Great Albatross (Diomedea)
Snowy (exulans)
Gibsons (gibsoni)
Antipodean (antipodensis)
Southern Royal (epomorpha)
Northern Royal (sanfordi)
Mollymawks (Thalassarche)
Black Browed (melanophrys)
Campbells (impavida)
Shy (cauta)
White-capped (steadi)
Salvins (salvini)
Chatham Island (eremita)
Grey-headed (chrysostoma)
Indian Yellow Nosed (carteri)
Bullers (bulleri)
Pacific (platei)
Sooty (Phoebetria fusca)
Light-mantled (Phoebetria palpebrata)
