were no records for the County prior to the
1940s" as REALLY meaning that there were no records THAT HE KNEW ABOUT.
Whilst he has certainly done an extraordinary effort in compiling bird records,
it still doesn't mean that he has 100% of
every bird record ever made. Just the same as Birds Australia doesn't have
100% of records, nor does any other bird club,
NSW Bird Atlassers, or NSW NPWS Atlas of Wildlife.
The fact is that many people keep records but do not submit them to any
"public" or "private" database. Or if they submit
them, they might submit them to one only, and that particular database does not
share its information with other database
keepers (for a variety of reasons).
