On this topic, many birding-aus readers will have seen  Lynne Truss's
popular book "Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to
Punctuation". I'd bet it is on Bob Inglis's bookshelf.  Here is a rather
too-serious review from the New Yorker attacking Truss's punctuation:
