Hi birding-aussers,

I'd just like to draw everyone's attention to the next Birds Australia
(Victoria) public lecture, which is on tonight, Thursday 8th of July
2004 at 8:00pm. Gavin McFadgen, from the Tarkine National Coalition,
will give a digital presentation on Tasmania's ancient forests. In
particular Gavin will talk about the Tarkine wilderness area in North
West Tasmania, an area that contains the largest tract of continuous
temperate rainforest in Australia. Please come along for a show
featuring breath-taking scenery and delightful creatures. For more
information on Tarkine visit the website of the Tarkine National
Coalition at http://www.tarkine.org/

The talk will be held at our usual venue: the theatrette at Strathcona
Baptist Girls Grammar School, Scott St, Canterbury, Melbourne (Melways
Ref. 46 D12), and will be preceded by a brief discussion into rare and
unusual bird sightings in Victoria.

Please note also that the Birds Australia (Victoria) Conservation
Committee also meets at Strathcona directly prior to our public
meeting. This is your opportunity to participate in bird conservation
and research. For more details please contact the Conservation
Committee Convenor Mark Anderson, email

Tim Dolby
