I guess, Bob, it shows how much emphasis we, as a group, put on a typo
or a misspelling in what, as has already been pointed out, was an
informative, interesting report.
On this list there are a number of very well established and, as far as
I can ascertain, having met few if any of you, respected birders.
In the field I have met a number of birders like myself - interested,
gaining experience, out there birding. When I have asked if they
contribute to Birding Aus I invariably get a negative reply and the
reasons? "They're a pretty picky bunch","They tear some people to
pieces", " What I see is not really important enough", "I'm not game".
Most of them read, but few contribute.
I find this sad.
Bob, I have appreciated your observations and information on local birds
and your sharing your experience in photography. I was disappointed when
you reacted the way you did to Carl's spelling. Maybe we need to be a
bit more understanding and encourage less experienced birders to share
their experiences and observations without outright criticism, sarcasm
and public vilification.
Food for thought?
I hope Carl accepted your comments in 'good faith' as you state.
I hope it hasn't dissuaded other birders from sharing and....
I hope you got over your trauma and managed to "struggle" through the
rest of Carl's reports 'cause they were bloody good.
Cheers,
