In "The Singing Garden", a charming book of verse on the garden birds of
his home at Toolangi, Vic., C.J. Dennis calls the Black-faced
Cuckoo-shrike a 'Blue Jay.'
I must check this book again - it has become a little obscure through
the use of old bush names. I think his 'Jacky Martin' was a Dusky
Wood-swallow.
Perhaps this is a book which should be re-issued with a few notes and
maybe some good photos. CJD was a genuine bird-lover and it would be
interesting to compare his list with what's found there now.
