Hi all,
The June 2004 edition of Australian Photography magazine contains several
articles on the subject of
digital versus film for still photography.
Although the articles do not specifically pertain to bird-photography they do
give a very good
insight into the good and bad points of digital photography as seen by a number
of experienced
photographers.
The main points of interest are the 'extras' needed by the digital photographer
and the real cost of
converting from film.
There is also a review of the DiMage Scan Dual IV slide scanner from Konica
Minolta.
If this scanner is as good as the review claims then the price of approx
AUD$899 (rec) would make it
a viable option to a digital camera if you already have a good 35 mm SLR (film)
system.
Also....
The June/July 2004 edition of PhotoReview Australia magazine has detailed
reviews of the 10 x zoom
cameras:
- Canon PowerShot S1 IS
- Olympus C-760 Ultra Zoom
(Note: the C-760 has a max focal length of (eq) 420 mm compared with 380 mm for
the other C-7xx
models.)
and the 12 x zoom Panasonic Lumix DCM-FZ10
as well as the 7 x zoom Canon PowerShot Pro 1
Keen observers may have noted that I have not actually completed my articles on
Digital Cameras for
Bird Photography.
These is a good reason for that........
I've been too busy playing with my digital cameras!
A lot has been going on in the digital world lately and I have experimenting
with close-up (macro)
photography and using flash.
My notes really need revising but that is a rather time-consuming job and I
would much rather be out
taking photographs!
Still.......the intention is there.....
Cheers
