Try this for a strange one:
Seen at West Lakes in Adelaide on Sunday morning. I watched it from about 8
ft for nearly ten minutes. No b.... camera !!
In company with Silver Gulls and other waterbirds - what is it ?
Bird is obviously a gull.
Head, neck, nape, face, chin, breast, belly, ventral area - all a uniform
clear mid grey.
Back and wings much darker grey, almost black, with large mid grey patches
in middle of back.
Feet, legs, beak dark brick red.
Very faint white line along the primaries edge, very thin, only seen as
bird fluttered it's wings.
Very faint two whitish mirrors at ends of primaries.
Eye very very pale yellowish, almost white.
General size and jizz well within Silver Gull range.
Beak same shape and length as Silver Gull.
No other white anywhere on the bird.
I have one expert's opinion which I'm sure is correct, let's see how many
others can get near it.
Tony.
