Malcolm Laird of Black Rock, Victoria has pics of several birds with
darker cheek-patches, reminiscent of 'shags' from New Zealand, has anyone
else come across these birds in Port Phillip Bay?
Hi Tom,
Just wondering, aren't immatures darker-faced than adults?
I would have just considered the one on the photo just an
immature? You can see that it sort of has trousers, but its
almost gone. It does seem like it has a crest though.
Just came back from NZ. The NZ White-throated/Intermediate form
looks much different to our own little pied, but not like the above. Other
non-Phalacrocorax Shags have pink (Leucocarbo) or yellow (Stictocarbo)
feet. The above looks to have black feet.
Got photos of about 30 species when I went to NZ. Should put them
on ABID when possible.
Regards,
Vin.
