Subject: Norfolk Island trip. long report.
Hi all, having recently returned from a visit to Norfolk Is with some
friends I felt it might prove useful to others to intending to visit sometime to
provide some info as to where we were able to find the birds there. I'm doing
this because although there is already some info in the b-a archives on this
subject which we accessed before going, we found birds in places not always
mentioned before. The birds are not in taxonomic sequence but in the order in
which we first found each species - the list for each species then has further
locations at which the species was found. Some were virtually all over the
island while others were only found in some specific locations and it is these
latter for which more detailed info is provided.
Emerald Dove - 1 just inside the entrance to the Botanic Park on
Grassy Rd.

1 on Red Road Track near McLachlans Lane
- 3 at Hundred Acres Reserve

1 near the very end of Stockyard Rd nr the picnic area
Red-crowned Parakeet or Green Parrot.
- 2 outside the aviary in the
Botanic Park - early morning

Welcome Swallow - frequently seen all over the island
Sacred Kingfisher - as 3) above.
Black-winged Petrel - 5 from Cooks Monument
Masked Booby - 50+ seen on Nepean Island from the main island
- frequently seen
flying past Cooks Monument.
Grey Ternlet - 2 on the rock immediately below and on the left of Cooks
Monument
- 2 on Moo-oo Rock, seen from Cooks Mon.

Crimson Rosella - many sightings all over the island
Feral pigeon - many places
Blackbird - common all over island
Song Thrush - 1 near Selwyn Reserve
- 2 off Bullocks Hut Rd
- 1 on Hollow Pine track

5 late afternoon Mt Bates track towards Mt Pitt rd.
Pacific Robin - these proved to be common all over the island but in
particular on the Mt Bates, Mt Pitt Summit, Hollow Pine, and Red Road
tracks.
