Hi all,
Went to Cumberland State Forest
in Sydney today and saw quite a few of the usual species expected
to be seen in there at this time of the year including,
Bell Miner,Noisy Miner,Pied Currawong,Laughing
Kookaburra,Grey Fantail,Golden Whistler,Yellow-faced Honeyeater,White-cheeked
Honeyeater,Brown Gerygone,White-browed Scrubwren,Black Faced
Cuckoo-shrike,Crimson rosella,Rainbow and Musk Lorikeet.
But I saw two species of interest today as
well.
The first was a Powerful
Owl and was seen just after the beginning of
the Forestry track roosting in a small tree directly above the
creek a little up from where the track crosses the creek. It was about 2:10
pm.
The second sighting was a dark morph
White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike which was seen in
a Melaleuca which hangs directly above the road at the end of the
Forestry trail.
The black scale marking that ran down this
birds chest was so beautiful.
Cheers,
Kurtis Lindsay
