Honeyeater migration

Another beautiful autumn day in the Blue Mountains and the honeyeater
migration is well and truly underway. This morning I had an added bonus
with a Crescent Honeyeater heard amongst the thousands of Yellow-faced
flying over my house. As usual, Spotted and Striated Pardalotes are moving
through as well, and the occasional flock of Red Wattlebirds.

As I was walking up to the shops after a particularly big wave of
honeyeaters had moved through, I caught sight of a fast flying raptor
disappearing over the treetops. It reappeared, circling higher and higher
over Katoomba. I didn't have my binoculars with me (damn, now I'll have to
start taking them to the shops with me) but I did see enough to suspect
that this was probably our local Peregrine eyeing off the smorgasbord of
small birds.

Cheers

Carol
