Yan Yean Reservoir Park

Hi all,

 

I have just spent a very enjoyable morning at Yan Yean Reservoir Park, 35 km North-East of Melbourne. The number of waterbirds, especially Eurasian Coots was amazing. Roughly counting there would have been close to 2000 Coots on the Reservoir. Other interesting sightings included a flock of 12 Blue-billed Ducks, many Muck Ducks and up to 20 Great Crested Grebes. In the forest and shrubbery around the reservoir mixed species flocks of Brown Thornbill, White-browed Scrubwren, Superb Fairy-wren and Spotted and Straited pardalotes were seen. Gang-gang Cockatoos were also spotted feeding on Sugar Gum nuts. Overall a very enjoyable morning in a very diverse spot, so close to Melbourne.
