Hi all,

Yesterday Nathan Waugh, Rob Peters and I visited Barren
Grounds Nature Reserve in hope of some specialties. Rob is an
American birder who had not seen a heath community before so
most of the birds were new to him. There was light rain and
very low cloud for the 2.5 hrs we were there (12:30 -
3:00pm), but we still managed some good birds. Species marked
with a * were heard but not seen and those in capitals are
heathland specialists.

Species list:

Wedge-tailed Eagle (1)
Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (4)
Rainbow Lorikeet* (1)
GROUND PARROT (2) (1 flushed and 1 calling)
Crimson Rosella (2)
Fan-tailed Cuckoo* (3)
Superb Lyrebird* (1)
Eastern Whipbird* (4)
SOUTHERN EMU-WREN (5)
EASTERN BRISTLEBIRD (3)
White-browed Scrubwren
Brown Thornbill (10+)
White-throated Treecreeper* (2)
Brush Wattlebird (5)
Yellow-faced Honeyeater (3)
New Holland Honeyeater (30+)
Eastern Spinebill (1)
Rose Robin (3)
Eastern Yellow Robin (2)
Golden Whistler (3)
Grey Fantail (5)
Australian Magpie (2)
Pied Currawong (3)
Australian Raven* (1)

25 Species

Cheers,
Nigel
