Thanks - I would say "mine" had more white on the back, although the
distance made it difficult to be sure.

Hi,
On Wed, 31 Mar 2004 01:14:05 +0000, David Torr asked:
"About a week ago (24th) I saw a strange Oystercatcher at Lauderdale (Tas).
It looked very much like
a Pied Oystercatcher EXCEPT that it had extensive white patches on the
back. It was at about the
limit of my scope's range so I can't be any more precise - anyone any
clues???"
I wonder if it looked anything like this one:

I have been observing and photographing this Pied Oystercatcher for at
least three years now.
I wonder if David is simply seeing a Pied Oystercatcher with aberrant
plumage like this one.
Cheers
