Extending the thread of the spread of Grey Butcherbirds in Brisbane and Sydney to Melbourne, I can confirm that there has been an enormous explosion also in Melbourne, well at least in the SE suburbs. When I arrived here in 1964 they were sparse and not on the list of every local birding trip. Now they are omnipresent.
I haven't asked, but I bet there has been a huge increase in reporting rates between the two Atlasses.
One reason for their increase is naughty people like me who so enjoy there presence, feed them in their backgarden!
