Extending the thread of the spread of Grey
Butcherbirds in Brisbane and Sydney to Melbourne, I can confirm that there has
been an enormous explosion also in Melbourne, well at least in the SE suburbs.
When I arrived here in 1964 they were sparse and not on the list of every local
birding trip. Now they are omnipresent.
I haven't asked, but I bet there has been a huge
increase in reporting rates between the two Atlasses.
One reason for their increase is naughty people
like me who so enjoy there presence, feed them in their backgarden!
