In reply to Bob's request for info re the Owlet-Nightjar i have only seen this bird once, and that was a couple of years ago in Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenongs in Vic. I was walking during the day along one of the paths to a waterfall and happened to notice a small hole in a dead trunk. When i returned i noticed the hole was "filled up" with something and when i put my bins on it, it turned out to be my first ever Owlet-Nightjar.
In response to the large numbers of Australian Ravens around Sydney raised by Kurtis, this appears to be the normal autumn behaviour of ravens flocking and hunting together. Many of the birds will be first year juveniles and they wander around extended home ranges in pursuit of food. Like Sydney a similar thing happens around Perth and the increasing numbers of this raven are readily apparent at this time of year due to this flocking behaviour.
