Australian Raven population increase

Kurtis, I would guess it would be to do with their intelligence and
opportunism. I see many more ravens than I used to as well. There is a flock
of maybe 20 birds which live at my kids' primary school and live on garbage
and scraps. I have had fun wedgeing half-eaten apples in bin lids and
watching them try and wrench the apple out. I haven't seen other largish
omnivorous birds being quite so canny with garbage (Funnily enough at 6am
this morning I saw a pied currawong hovering around the garbage bins, but
otherwise haven't seen other birds do this). Not sure whether currawongs and
magpies ahve a more specialised diet or they are less adaptable in this
regard.
