Hi Brisbane Birders,
A Sooty Oystercatcher was in residence today (17 March 2004) on the
seaward-side rockwall of the
boat ramp at Pelican Park, Clontarf Beach, SE Queensland.
Clontarf Beach is at the southern end of the Redcliffe Peninsular which is just
north of (but not
part of!!!) Brisbane in South East Queensland.
UBD Refidex Brisbane, Map 91, F 18.
Best time is high tide (approx 7 am on 17 March 2004). The birds tend to roost
on the rock wall (if
not disturbed by fishing-people) during high tide but may be on the rocks
directly out from the boat
ramp at other times.
In case anyone has difficulty seeing these rocks there is a large sign on them
displaying the word:
"Rocks".
I don't guarantee the Sooty Oystercatcher will be there again but I have seen
them there a number of
times in the past.
Also check out all the Golden Plovers, some are coming into breeding plumage.
Good luck
Bob Inglis
