Hello all,

I heartily agree with the sentiments expressed by Val. What a pleasure it
is to read Wim's absorbing descriptions.

I think that Wim should collect them together to make them into a
book/booklet that covers a year of birding in Tromso.

Along these lines, it is a pity that some of the active birders in Australia
do not do the same - that is, compile monthly reports as a summary of the
'normal' (and exceptional) birding events/appearnces/migrations, etc etc in
their particular area, with some explanatory and/or descriptive comments
attached. The occasional reports posted are fine - but they are really only
a snapshot of an area at a particular time of year/season. If these could
be extended to cover the annual range of variation experienced at an area,
they would be a great resource. Perhaps the people who are regular
atlassers could pick up the pen (or keyboard) and flesh out their atlas
reports in this manner. And the first chapter in each booklet should give a
description of the location and habitat/environment of the area being
described, and its yearly cycle of variation could be described at the start
of each of the 12 monthly chapters (including things like temperature
cycles, rainfall, etc).

Possibly BA could support their production into a series of booklets
entitled 'A Year of Birds at (Placename)' or some similar title?

Good birding
