It is difficult to judge from the photo if the breast band is complete or
not - the description describes a "breast band" and it is certainly well
marked in 01571.jpg, it looks to be at least nearly complete. All the
Kentish I have seen have been very pale birds - in America it is known as
the "Snowy Plover" but that sub-species is very pale.
Well, I couldn't find any bird today which matched the photo so I can't say
anything more. The only Charadrius plovers I saw today were Red-capped, I
think, but is was VERY windy (the 'mini-cyclone' starting?) and it therefore
was difficult to use a scope. As I said, I do not think I have enough skill
to distinguish Red-capped from Kentish and I suspect the netting would be
the only safe way. There were about twenty Great Knots in Thornside though.
Sorry I can't help more.
Best regards
Tim Murphy
