Dubbo heat

Wet field guides?  Damaging floods?  All these things are foreign to me?  Something wet and cool did fall from the sky at my place  (20km south of Dubbo) late yesterday afternoon but as it didn't dampen the rain gauge I can't be sure what it was.

Nevertheless, the resident Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Galahs and Little Corellas did get very excited, flying around while shuffling their feathers catching the moisture falling from the sky.  The honeyeaters were rolling in the leaves attempting to bathe so there is a chance that it may have been rain.

I dare say it will rain sooner or later out here.  Been over f ur weeks since we had rain (only had two rainfall days in January!) and everything is looking extremely dry again.  We have just gone through a milder change with the temperature yesterday being 37 and Tuesday 36.  Prior to that we had a run of seven 41 + degree days which were preceded by (if I recall correctly) a further five days with temperatures that exceeded the old century mark.  The good news is that the bureau of met are predicting a break in this weather early next week but not before we get back into a run of 40 + days again (predicted top today 39 degrees).

I haven't been out birding in this heat - although I had great views of a Spotted Harrier while luxuriating in the Guerie (30 km east of Dubbo) swimming pool last Sunday - but I'm assuming the little birds are doing it hard.  There is now no surface water left on my place other than the ponds in my garden and the cattle troughs.

Cheers
