Sightings

10 February

There was an Oriental Pratincole at Werribee Sewerage Farm on Austin Road in the first pond on left through the gate, thanks Glen Crothers.

 

8 February

There was a small flock of around 5 Cape Barren Geese at Paradise Road at the Western Treatment Plant, thanks Sue Taylor.

 

8 February

There were 3 Wedge-tailed Eagles soaring above Launching Place, thanks Craig Marsalek.

 

8 February

There were 3 Arctic Jaegers, including a light phase bird seen from a fishing boat in the bay just south of Williamstown, thanks Simon Starr.

 

7 February

A Wedge tailed Eagle soaring above agricultural land at Newmerella. An infrequent sighting for this area, thanks Len Axen.

 

6 February

There were 9 Little Corellas flying north-west over Mayer Park, Thornbury, thanks Paul Peake.

 

5 February

A Peaceful Dove sighted in a rural sub-division on the outskirts of Marlo, thanks Len Axen.

 

4 February

There were over 100 White-throated Needletails whilst driving on the highway between Stratford and Sale, thanks Vin.

 

4 February

At Edwards Point Reserve near St Leonards, lots of Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

1 February

Highlights of this months Port Fairy Pelagic trip include 4 Common Diving-petrel, 3 White-headed Petrel, 1 Soft-plumaged Petrel, 2 Cooks' Petrel (only the second and third for Victoria, and because of the photographic record, potentially the first ‘acceptable’ sight record for Australia), 4 White-chinned Petrel, 1 southern Royal Albatross, 40 Grey-backed Storm-petrel and 1 Caspian Tern, seen inshore and may be the first for these trips, thanks Mike Carter.

 

Updates

5 February

The Black-tailed Native-hens were still at Jawbone Reserve (near the ibis colony), thanks Alan Flack

 

4 February

The Common Sandpiper at Albert Park was still present at the same place as originally sighted; in the middle of the 3 ponds at the northern end of the Lake, thanks Alex Farias
