A search of the birding-aus archive at
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/birding-aus/ turned up some discussion of the
ANU's work led by Dr Chris Tidemann.
The e-mail address Richard Hall mentions is on the Common Myna web site,
http://sres.anu.edu.au/associated/myna/index.html . Dr Tidemann says on the
site he gets too many e-mail enquiries to be able to respond personally to
every one. One of his newsletters at
http://sres.anu.edu.au/associated/myna/pdf%27s/feral_facts2.pdf has a
picture of the trap that's been used experimentally in Canberra. The latest
newsletter at
http://sres.anu.edu.au/associated/myna/pdf%27s/feral_facts4.pdf says traps
and plans for them are not yet commercially available.
The Canberra Ornithologists Group (COG) Gang-gang newsletter last July were
looking for volunteers to participate in a second trapping project. See
http://www.canberrabirds.dynamite.com.au/gg03jul.htm .

Can anyone help Richard with this request? Perhaps you could also let us
all know via birding-aus if there are myna traps that can be used
legally. It would be good to do something about these pests. However,
something in the dark recesses of my brain tells me that the only way
Mynas have been elminated on a large scale was by netting and gassing -
was this the Bairnsdale (Vic) method?

Subject: Myna Trap
Dear Russell
I am looking for the source of either plans to construct or a pre-built
myna trap.
Most links on Google seem to point to the SA bird group, (who
inexplicably state, ~As we no longer have any Indian Myna's in South
Australia we are unable to give you any information about traps.~) What
will they do when the myna~s reappear?
There is also a link to ANU, but email to the published address
remains unanswered.
Can you assist?
Best regards
Richard Hall
