Two (immature, I belIeve) female Red-winged Parrots appeared briefly in a
tree overhanging my back-yard last Monday a.m. I thought - when I saw the
first - it was a youngish female King Parrot with some of its tail feathers

It noted it appeared all-green except for a quite small patch of red at the
shoulder. When the second turned up a few minutes later, the greater amount
of red at the shoulder was immediately noticeable.

At that point, I suspected them to be Red-winged Parrots, and a check of the
books verified it. I don't know whether or not this species passes through
the Ipswich area very often, but I'd certainly not spotted them here before

Apart from the fact it was good to seee a species I've only had one definite
tick against before, it brought to 10 the parrots I've recorded in the
immediate vicinity of my house in Coalfalls; (an older not-too-bushy suburb
in walking distance of the town centre).

List to date: Rainbow, Scaly-breasted, Musk and Little Lorikeets;
Pale-headed Rosella; King Parrot; SC Cockatoo; Little Corella; Galah and
Red-winged Parrot.

Red-rumped Parrot and Cockatiel are both relatively plentiful not-too-many
km away, but I've not seen any close enuff to home-sweet-home to claim them
for my Neighbourhood birdWatch list as yet...
