Have just heard that Cape Gannets are still present on Lawrence Rocks in Portland Bay, Victoria. Marcel Hoog-Antik of Parks Victoria and Rob Farnes found two when they visited on 20 December 2003. They were in the same spot where originally found in the 1990's, surrounded by the huge, increasing, dense colony of Australasian Gannets. The maximum number seen there a few years ago was nine. Landing on the islands is forbidden (and dangerous) and unfortunately, it is not possible to see the Cape's without landing. We have yet to encounter one at sea!
