My son telephoned me at about 9.30 pm to ask what was the strange call he could hear. Something like a human calling out in alarm, he thought, but moving too fast to be anything but a bird. He went outside with his mobile and I could hear it too - unfortunately the signal was breaking up badly, but I am wondering now if it could have been a Koel...We had one a few summers ago at Yarra Bend Park. My son lives on Darebin Creek north of Livingstone Street, ie, some way upstream from Darebin Parklands. Lots of Flying-Foxes overhead too. Anthea Fleming Merry Christmas or equivalent cultural festival to all.
