Further to the Blackbird topic, here in South Penrith just to the west of
Sydney they are very common both in suburban gardens and along the banks of
the Nepean River. I have never seen them having problems with Currawongs, at
the moment I can see a bush at the bottom of my garden and there is a male
Black bird and a Pied Currawong both there picking the berries.
I actually felt sorry for a pair of Currawongs here on Sunday, they had
become the proud foster parents of a gigantic CB Cuckoo chick which appeared
to be about 50 pct bigger than the Currawongs, it cried plaintively all
morning as the two 'parents' tried to satisfy it's hunger.
With regard to introduced species over the locals, although I am trying to
make my garden more wild-life friendly, at the moment some 75 pct of birds
here at any time will be introduced species:-
House Sparrow
Spotted Turtledove
Common Mynah
Starling
Common Blackbird
Goldfinch
Long Billed Corella (introduced in this area, and very common now).
